Song of This Place
by Joy Coghill September 10 - 26 Set in a deep, embracing forest, Song of This
Place tells the story of an actress who sets out to play Emily Carr,
Canada’s foremost woman artist, only to find that the eccentric,
fiercely independent Carr will not let her. The playwright creates both
a portrait of Emily Carr and an investigation into the process of
liberation required for the creation of art. Thematically and
theatrically, the play celebrates the release, the soaring of the human
spirit. |

A Few Stout Individuals by John Guare April 1 - 17 This remarkable play introduces the
extraordinary final days of Ulysses S Grant struggling to complete his
memoirs while battling illness, crushing debt, the labyrinth of his
memories and the haunting tragedy of the battle of Cold Harbor, all the
while surrounded by a cast of fantastical characters, including the
Emperor of Japan, the opera star Adelina Patti and Mark Twain. The play
illuminates the dusty pages of history and suggests that memory is a
more reliable source of truth. It is an imaginative, exuberant
tour-de-force from one of our most daring writers. |

Pangloss and Pennypocket
by D.A. Lewis and J.H. Kaufman May 25 – June 5 This premiere production of a fascinating
comedy brings us Pangloss – a stuffy, arrogant physician, writer of
“how-to” health articles;and Pennypocket – fierce, outspoken writer of
children’s books … coerced by an agent into collaborating on a novel, a
love story. They soon create a pair of characters who know more about
love than they do. Funny, surprising new work by… two collaborating
writers, one a physician ! |
